AI Disclosure and Attribution

Ingram/Lightning Source gathers information regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence in the content of our catalog.  Capturing this information during the title setup process allows us to better understand how publishers are using AI technology with the creation of content.

In addition to disclosing use of AI upon title setup, proper attribution of creation using the contributor fields in the metadata must accompany all works. Assigning accurate AI attribution provides transparency and trust between authors, publishers, readers, and consumers.

For example, for a book written by a human author with a human illustrator that used AI tools in the creation of images, you could provide the contributors as below:

Author - John Snow
Illustrator - Rebecca Snow
Assisted By -  Generative AI

The sequence of the contributors is critical. The Assisted By role is directly related to the previous contributor. There is no implication of AI assistance with the author, but rather the sequence implies that the AI assistance is attributed to the Illustrator.

All content in our catalog, regardless of whether AI was involved in its creation, is subject to review to align with our Integrity Guidelines. Gathering this information helps us ensure the quality of content and minimize any biases against independently published works.
