Metadata is vital to your book’s discovery and success. Robust and descriptive book information is how retailers, libraries, and readers find the books they are looking for.
The modern consumer wants to be engaged. Giving a reader an accurate preview of your title’s content through its metadata is the key to hooking them to your products. Offering prospective customers more information up-front will always lead to more opportunities to convert a casual interest into a life-long customer.
So what does “good metadata” actually look like? Let's take a look at two examples of similar fantasy novels to see which one stands out.
Book 1 has very basic metadata. It's not compelling enough to stand out from the millions of other fiction titles in the market. Book 2 has much more descriptive information giving consumers a much better understanding of what the book is about.
Good metadata, as shown above, provides a fuller picture of what a book is about allowing it to be more discoverable in the market. Utilizing metadata fields such as BISACs, Thema Subjects, Keywords, and Descriptions helps optimize books for the best possible discovery and sales. And those are just a few!
